What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct form of primary health care that aims to address the root cause of illness using natural therapies. It uses scientific knowledge and evidence-based medicine to help treat and prevent chronic illness. Treatment focuses not only on getting you to feeling better now, but on helping you improve your health in the future.

What can naturopathic medicine help me with?

Some of the most common health concerns that naturopathic doctors treat include but are not limited to:

  • Digestive issues (irritable bowel, gas and bloating, heartburn)
  • Fatigue
  • Hormonal imbalances (PMS, fertility, hormonal acne, blood sugar imbalances, thyroid imbalances, chronic stress)
  • Weight management
  • Skin conditions (acne, eczema, psoriasis)
  • Pain (injuries, menstrual pain, fibromyalgia)

What can I expect from my visit with Dr Tamar Ferreira?

When coming to see a naturopathic doctor, your treatment is individualized and holistic. That is because naturopathic doctors acknowledge that each person is unique, and that a similar symptom could have a different cause in different individuals.

In your first visit, which lasts from 1-1.5hrs, Dr. Ferreira will go through your intake forms and take a full medical history. She will take the time to listen to your concerns and will start to put together the pieces of the puzzle to help you move towards your health goals. Blood work may be ordered at that time. The second visit (45min) usually consists of a physical exam, a review of any blood work, and a discussion of your individualized treatment plan. Follow-up visits (15-30min) are then scheduled to track your progress and modify the treatment plan as needed.

Don’t forget that you are an active partner in your health. Tamar Ferreira wants to empower you to make the changes necessary to improve your health. If you have any concerns about your treatment plan, do not hesitate to discuss them with Dr. Ferreira.
